If you ask “Is it really mandatory to have an email list to make money through blogging?”,

Ummm…No, Not really!

But that’s just crazy talk!

The answer to the above question is highly dependent on how you want your blogging business to be (money wise!). The energy of your business is directly tied to the strength of your email list.

The email list is usually the most overlooked part of blogging that most of the successful bloggers regret not starting from the very beginning of their business.

As said by Pat Flynn (of SmartPassiveIncome.com) himself,

When I started my first two online businesses back in 2008, I waited to start an email list. That’s right—I made this mistake twice! I missed out on a huge opportunity to connect regularly with my audience, and when I was ready to sell to my audience, I didn’t have a way to let them know.

I missed out on sales because I hadn’t taken the time to build a relationship over email.”

Missing out on sales can significantly decline your income stats despite having decent traffic on your blog.

PRO TIP: Try NOT to learn the above statement the hard way!

Though an email list is a great way to increase one’s income, but it also offers several other key benefits that MOST of the bloggers may be unaware of.

Eye-Opening points about email marketing

1: Get traffic Regardless the influence of external referrals (at your own will)

As you may (or may not) know, Guaranteed permanent traffic is NOT a thing anymore 🙁 unless you have a really bomb strategy. With the changing algorithms in social media and Google SEO, getting traffic is just getting harder. A single algorithm change can destroy your traffic patterns significantly.

Your email list is totally yours to keep.

Other external factors of social media algorithms cannot even touch your email list subscribers.

So start building your email list from the beginning. If you haven’t already, it’s not too late to start now.

2: An Email List Has The Potential To Bring  A Dead Business Back To Life

How, you ask?

Well…Let’s take a good ol’ example-

In 2013, Pat Flynn’s website was hacked. SPI was down for an entire week after a DDOS attack left the site unusable.

As he was trying to get things back online, he was able to keep in contact with his email list audience to let them know what was going on.

It showed him that even if his site was gone, he’d still have his email list so that he could set up things again if he needed to.

Now do you see what I mean?

3: Help Retain Old Readers When You’re Busy Chasing New Ones

Let me tell you a real incident:

A few years ago I stumbled upon a really cool blogging site called mindbodygreen.com, the site was solely based on health, recipes, and lifestyle. I was a regular reader of that blog because I found it pretty neat. Then I got distracted because there was so much stuff happening in my life.

Fast forward a few months, I completely forgot that mindbodygreen.com even existed. One day just casually checking my emails I found a few email newsletters from the said blog, later I found myself scrolling hours on the blog.

That was my “I am back Bit#$%@” moment, (not that anyone cared!). 🙂

Moral of the story: Your Email list helps you to hold onto your previous readers. I didn’t understand that email thing back then until now.

4: ROI at its absolute best

ROI, also known as return on investment (ROI) measures the gain or loss generated on an investment relative to the amount of money invested. It means the money you gained (or lost) when you invested in something. Therefore higher the ROI, the better.

According to Capterra, the average return on $1 spent on email marketing is $44.25!

June 2016 survey of US marketers conducted by the Direct Marketing Association (DMA) and Demand Metric found that email had a median ROI of 122%—more than four times higher than other marketing formats examined, including social media, direct mail, and paid search.

WHAAAAT! That’s insanity!

The verdict is in. According to 80 percent of professionals, email marketing drives customer acquisition and retention. That concludes that an email list is an integral part of your business growth. especially if it is online.

As the saying goes, “If you’re not growing, you’re dying”.

5: Golden Ticket To Know Your Audience And Engage With Them

Your email list is the ultimate ticket to know what your audience wants from you and the problems they struggle with. Only by knowing these things you’ll be able to create content that actually solves problems rather than just creating unnecessary fluff blogs. You know what I mean?

Here’s a hard pill to swallow, “ALMOST NO ONE IN YOUR AUDIENCE GIVES A DAMN ABOUT YOU!“.

All they care about is how you can solve THEIR problem and how you can make THEIR life better. And the email list is the only engaging way you can learn the struggles and hardships of your audience.

6: Significant amount of your income generates from Email

Email has the highest click-through rates of all possible formats present. Let’s say you have an email list of about 10,000 people, who (hopefully) like your content. One fine day you decided to promote an affiliate product(with commision rate of $65) to your list that will help them.

Say, 2500 people opened their email to see what you have to offer. And eventually, 200 of them decided to actually buy the product.

let us do the damn math:

$65×200= $13,000

*ka-ching*  You’ve made a whopping  $13,000 in a single day baby!

And that’s just only one email we are considering here, you can imagine the rest. Now, do you see the power of having an email list?

But that surely doesn’t mean that you’ll only interact with your list only when you need to make some sales. Your email list is not dollar signs, they are real people. Treat them accordingly. In one of my previous posts, I’ve talked about the mistakes bloggers make and how being too sales-y can harm you.

But, Why Convertkit Is Best For Blogging And Online Business?

1: Convertkit was SPECIFICALLY made for bloggers and online Entrepreneurs

The owner of Convertkit, Nathan Barry, is himself a pretty accomplished blogger making over $250,000+ a year BEFORE he started ConvertKit. That makes him well aware of the key requirements of a blogger and/or any online entrepreneur in general.

It’s no wonder why the platform is so intuitive for bloggers. He knew EXACTLY what other bloggers were looking for, what they want and he created it. Pretty cool! right?

2: Automation on fire

Automation allows you to send emails to your list even when you’re sleeping. Being in an online business means that you don’t have an opening or a closing time for readers/customers, it operates 24×7.

That means the deliverability of your emails should not be affected even if it had to run continuously. This is where Automation comes into play. Even if you’re on vacation, you have the facility to send emails to your list if it is automated beforehand.

3: Pure Gold quality Auto-responders, Forms, Opt-ins and many more
